Books with McDonald’s Canada Happy Meals and #OwnABookGiveABook

There are times where I like to pop into McDonald’s to pick up a Happy Meal as it’s just the right size for a quick on-the-go meal. Usually I pick between the boys’ toy, so I can pass it on to our nephews, or the girls’ toys, especially if they’re Hello Kitty themed.

From May 16th, families can choose from a book or toy when they order their Happy Meals. This campaign is in partnership with Kids Can Press, the largest Canadian-owned children’s book publisher. The books feature Canadian iconic characters like Scaredy Squirrel by Quebec author Mélanie Watt, Franklin the Turtle by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark, the beloved Life in the Wild series by Nicholas Oldland and the Dragon Safety Series from Jean E. Pendziwol and Martine Gourbault.

Alongside the new Happy Meal option, for the next two weeks, you can also participate in this literacy initiative on social media. For every tagged photo of bookshelves (i.e.;”shelfies”), McDonald’s and First Book Canada will donate a book to a Canadian child in need.
